Visiting Author

We were VERY fortunate to have our visiting author, Rukhsana Khan, present to our school. She is an inspiring and talented writer and story teller.

What were some of your thoughts following her talks?

What's going to change for you as a writer?

  5. I think our visiting author helped me really think really deeply about how essays work and what essays are really about. What I am going to change as a writer is thinking about the way my words go into a sentence I am writing. Why, is because to make my readers focus on what I am trying to show them.

  8. When the visiting author came she told us the story The Roses In My Carpets. Her sentences were thoughtful and were really big and a bit deep which can help me in my essays unit by making my sentences more big to make the sentences less boring, kind of like when you write a fantasy story and you want the reader to really enjoy it. Our visiting author was very inspiring in what she does in life.

  9. I thought the main idea of writing books was just get an idea and write it. But my whole view of books and writing has seriously changed. And also, I really didn't get what essays really were, but now I totally get it!

  10. I learned that your essay will be more interesting if your essay has interesting words and I also learned that the most important word in a sentence is the verb.

  11. The Visiting author helped me get a better idea of how essays work and how you can turn a plain and boring sentence a lot more better. I will change myself as writer by making my writing stand out and revise more often. I thought Rukhsana Khan was really right that violent video games are bad and imagine that you're that team that gets beaten up, 'cause that's what happens in some places in real life.

  14. I used to just write. But now I see that if you change the words to more juicy ones then it will make your writing a whole lot better! I also learned that changing the syntax of the sentence can make a big difference! After she came, writing is a whole lot easier for me!

  15. I learnt that by changing the syntax you can change the whole meaning and focus of the sentence.
For example "The woman gave us shirts when leaving the party".Or
"When leaving the party the woman gave us shirts".
